“Till I
Can’t”, the definitive retrospective album by the Slut Boys – one of North
Florida’s earliest and most notorious punk bands – is now available.
It features cover
art by Bill “Mister Stupid” Otersen, a promo flyer adapted from a gig flyer
designed by Donny Crenshaw in August 1980, and a two-sided insert with a
literary tribute penned by Steve Dollar, excerpted from as follows:
“Tallahassee in the mid-to-late 1970s was, indeed, the dark side of the moon. Punk was detonating in New York City and the UK, and in outposts like San Francisco, Cleveland and Detroit. Not the Florida Panhandle. In the sleepy Capital City, the bands that held sway played swampy jazz-rock with a Grateful Dead hangover, or histrionic stadium-rock scaled for nickel beer nights on small club stages as fog machines sputtered. There was nothing expressive of subversive, ill-mannered rejection of the status quo, no blatant irresponsibility, no sound of breaking glass, no one putting up homemade gig posters advocating for ladies apartment wrestling or penile modification. No one to epater les freaking bourgeoisie. No one, that is, until the Slut Boys."
This archival release includes the band's 1980 4-song demo, plus a selection of live tracks carefully curated from old live cassette recordings. It is limited to 300 total copies, with the first 100 on translucent purple vinyl. Purple vinyl copies also incude a sticker depicting the band logo designed by Donny Crenshaw.
